Environmental World Literature: Encounters with Water

Institution: Unity College

Instructor: Sam Collier

Description: In this course, students will explore the human relationship to water, as described in ancient and modern texts from around the world. Stories of floods and tempests, oceans and rivers, monsoons and droughts, can be found across cultures and continents. This class will draw on such works from a variety of genres, including fiction, poetry, and drama. Through close reading, class discussions, and both analytical and creative writing assignments, students will develop an understanding of how water influences the stories we tell.
