Art and The Environment

Description: Student will be introduced to the history of land and environmental art through readings, research, lectures, and making. Students will be asked to consider contemporary environmental issues including climate change, plastic pollution, deforestation, “resource” removal, and indicator species as the content of their work. We will consider the effects of art-making on the environment in terms of production, materials, shipping, and exhibitions. Course projects will include individual and collaborative art-making in non-traditional exhibition spaces and with non-traditional materials.
